Robert Johnson 25th Anniversary Japan Tour

MIDNIGHT EAST, a club night series by Spotify O-EAST and Azumaya, will celebrate 25 years of Robert Johnson.

Since they opened in 1999 on the banks of the River Main in Offenbach with a capacity of just 250 people, Robert Johnson's outstanding sound system, immaculate sense of style regarding the musical

programme and a will to progress have made it one of the most important places for electronic music in the whole of Europe. Robert Johnson’s mastermind is Athanassios Macias, also known as ATA. ATA has been DJing since the late 1980s, and he is one of the most important figures when talking about house music in Europe. He’s also known as the co-founder of the legendary record shop Delirium, and the trinity of the Playhouse, Klang and Ongaku labels, and the first clubnight in Frankfurt for modern house and deep house at Wild Pitch Club. He has been booking great house DJs such as Roman Flügel, Ricardo Villalobos, Zip and Gerd Janson since Robert Johson opened until now, as well as focusing on supporting young generations from the Frankfurt area. And ATA himself fascinates crowds when he stoically spins records for hours on end, and it’s during his marathon sets when Robert Johnson is at its best.

To celebrate their 25th anniversary, Robert Johnson and ATA have been travelling the world since last year. At this Tokyo event, ATA will be joined by MOODMAN, a veteran who’s been DJing since the 80s and has finally expanded his field outside of the country, including appearances at Robert Johnson, Watergate and Club der Visionaere last year. Also MINODA, who organises his own party M's Room at Koenji’s GRASSROOTS and co-host 条件反射 (Joken Hansha) with his fellow DJ MOODMAN since 2022, will play on the O-EAST 3F floor.

Azumaya will feature 4 DJs including okadada, a DJ/producer who is popular for his appearances at outdoor festivals and underground parties all over the country, regardless of the size, overground or underground, location or type of events, and Akie, who has extensive knowledge as a record buyer and has played several times at DJ Nobu’s FUTURE TERROR/Reprise parties. Also Manaha, one half of a DJ duo An toi, who specialise in playing house music and other culture-linked sets, and host the TOGENKYO party and CELTER, the organiser of EXTREME HOUSE TERROR and captivates dance floors with a selection of minimal, electro and acid sounds will play.

Following the party at MIDNIGHT EAST, Robert Johnson 25th Anniversary Japan Tour with ATA and MOODMAN will happen at Nagoya’ Mago on 29th March, then they will head to Kyoto to play at West Harlem on 4th April.
