MALA in Japan feat BACK TO CHILL 18th Anniversary

Dubstep icon MALA visits Japan for the first time in 6 years

to celebrate GOTH-TRAD’s party BACK TO CHILL’s 18th anniversary

Dubstep originator MALA will play at the 18th birthday of BACK TO CHILL, the pinnacle of dubstep and bass music parties in Japan.

The head honcho GOTH-TRAD founded BACK TO CHILL in 2006, named after his own track “Back To Chill” which led to his connection with the UK Dubstep scene, and since then BTC has gained attention as the first regular dubstep night in Japan, not only from heads in the country but also from bass music fans around the world. For the past few years, BTC has been taking place on the first Thursday of every other month at ENTER Shibuya, but this year's anniversary will be held at MIDNIGHT EAST as GOTH-TRAD's fellow artist MALA’s first gig in Japan in six years.

A founding member of DMZ, which is one of the most important crews in the UK dubstep scene, MALA established his own imprint Deep Medi Musik in 2006, the same year BTC was launched, and has since released music from many of key figures in bass music, including Skream, Swindle, Calibre, Kahn, and GOTH-TRAD. At BTC's 18th birthday’s main floor, MALA will be joined by DJ KRUSH, a pioneer in the Japanese hip-hop scene who has a career spanning over 30 years. DJ KRUSH will play a special BASS SET. In addition to them, rising star SAMO from Osaka-based dance music collective FULLHOUSE, a B2B performance from BTC regulars HELKTRAM and MØNDAIGA are also lined up, while the mastermind GOTH-TRAD will play a live set. Visuals will be handled by DBKN, who joined BTC as a VJ in 2007.

Azumaya’s lineup includes CYBERHACKSYSTEM from Rave Racers, VIXLATIXN/TRAPEZE co-organiser EVE, 貞淑 organiser Medical, BS0xtra member ykah, a B2B set from BTC regular MEME and DiVANG TUNE organiser yuitty. From BTC crew, CITY1, and 100mado, who is one of the original members of BTC will also be on the decks.

On top of these, BACK TO CHILL made special collaboration T-shirts with a popular clothing brand NISHIMOTO IS THE MOUTH. The black/white T-shirts will be exclusively available at this event. (Price: ¥5,000)
